I went from uTorrent to qBittorrent. I liked having the client on my phone. uTorrent may have a phone app by now.

Started with uTorrent long ago, hopped on many clients, tried Lime, Kazaa, Tixati and a few oddballs, settled with qBitTorrent for a few years, tried Android and cloud clients, but the one that works for me is...
Currently on WebTorrent. Doing one or two at a time, not reseeding for long. Yeah, it sucks, but on mobile plan now, and not seeing a landline/fiber in this decade, due practical life constraints.

qbitorrent.
I also use JDownloader and IDM for streams. I recently discovered Parabolic. https://nickvision.org/parabolic.html What happened to Emule?

Oh, not that I had trouble finding what I liked / worked out the best for me, just I wanted to try them to see what each one could do or not. Also checking on different systems out of the Torrent network. For a while, I wanted to see if different systems could improve on what BitTorrent protocol had to offer, like repository distribution, etc. Actually DHT is working well, the major issue I found is retention; people download and then stop sharing / delete the torrent after a while, which doesn't help preserve the material (media, games, etc) In order for torrents to survive, someone has to keep a big storage available and share it, and that doesn't fit most of the population. I 8TB hard drives and could share a lot but no Internet, using 5G "fast" mobile but can't move a lot, just some 10GB per week. Latency is high, so most clients just drop me as peer. That's why I'm on streaming sites for my media needs and most of the time only download FitGirl's games, they're very compressed; but even then some modern games being like 50-100GB to download, I'm focusing on oldies. BTW: I wouldn't recommend old torrent clients due the long story of vulnerability on uTorrent, qBitTorrent, etc. You can use WebTorrent or uTorrentWeb, or even a browser with embedded torrent client.

But even qBitTorrent had a vulnerability found recently (2024 or 2025?), like uTorrent had. It's useless to update if developers don't see or don't care about the back entrance being open... That's why web torrenting may be a good way; that and using a sandbox. |
